The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change

ALL ABOUT ME

Emma Gerasimatos

Hello and welcome to my site. I'm Emma. I'm a psychotherapist and group facilitator providing counselling services to individuals, couples and groups, face-to-face in Coogee (Sydney's Eastern Suburbs) and online.

I know finding a therapist that is a good fit for you can feel like an obstacle too great. You may have reached out before only to find it wasn’t for you. Helpful therapy relies on finding a good fit so that a strong therapeutic relationship can evolve.

I know my work is an honour and a privilege and I feel in awe of the tenacity, creativity and humanness we all share.

The privilege of a lifetime is to become who you truly are

 HOW I CAN HELP

My Services

A woman sitting in a wooden chair, wearing black trousers and a blue silk blouse. The woman is looking away from the camera, down at her notes. She has a pen in her hand. Emma is available for individual counselling in Coogee, Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs, or online.

Individual Counselling

I provide counselling and psychotherapy to people from all walks of life. Come as you are; be supported without judgement.

A man and woman stand side by side holding hands facing the ocean. Their backs are to the camera. Both people are barefoot and are holding their shoes with their free hand. The image signifies individual and couples therapy. Emma is available for couples counselling in Coogee, Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs, or online.

Couples Counselling

I work with couples to help them overcome their relationship challenges and improve the way they relate to each other.

A woman of colour wearing a white t-shirt, black beanie and large hoop earrings is placing a pair of grey headphones over her ears for Depth Enquiry. The woman has a tattoo in the shape of a triangle on the inside of her right bicep. Emma is available for Depth Enquiry treatment in person in Coogee, in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs. She also offers online appointments.

Depth Enquiry (Trauma)

Depth Enquiry is effective for processing trauma, similar to EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing).

A group of individuals sit on cushions on the floor in a large spacious room with lots of windows and natural light. The people are sitting in a circle facing each other and there are plants lining the edges of the room. The people could be attending a women's circle, a group facilitation or workplace session. Emma offers group services in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs

Group Facilitation

I really enjoy working with groups of people. This includes facilitating women's circles and workplace sessions.

 GOT QUESTIONS?

Frequently Asked Questions

I'VE NEVER SEEN A THERAPIST BEFORE. WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT?

It is completely normal to be nervous before your first session with a therapist. When working with me, you're in a completely safe, judgment free zone and you are welcome to share as little or as much as you feel comfortable. The best way I can describe it, is "come as you are". I will meet you where you are (figuratively) and support you throughout our journey together.

HOW OFTEN WILL I NEED AN APPOINTMENT? HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL I NEED?

It really depends on what kind of support you're looking for. If you have one specific issue or challenge you'd like to work through, we may be able to do that in a few sessions, however, usually a counselling relationship is longer term. I tend to recommend at least 6 sessions to experience progress, however, I'll give you an indication of this after our first session.

SHOULD I GET INDIVIDUAL COUNSELLING OR COUPLE'S COUNSELLING?

This depends on quite a few factors. Firstly, are both you and your partner open to working together in therapy to improve your situation? When one party feels forced to attend therapy, this can create resentment. In some cases, it is beneficial to seek out individual therapy first, before proceeding to progress with couple's therapy. If you're uncertain, please feel free to contact me to discuss.

I'VE SEEN A COUNSELLOR BEFORE AND IT DIDN'T WORK. SHOULD I TRY AGAIN?

This depends on why you feel that counselling didn't work for you. Sometimes a new approach and a fresh start with a counsellor you feel truly safe and comfortable with can make a huge difference in the therapeutic outcomes. As an advocate of counselling, I would encourage you to give it another try and to do so with an open mind.

ARE THERE ANY CONCESSIONS OR REBATES AVAILABLE?

I am a registered provider with Medibank, GU Health, Police Health, Doctor's Health Fund and Phoenix Health Fund. Rebates are available if you are privately insured through one of these companies. My services are claimable under the NDIS scheme if your plan includes Counselling/Psychotherapy.

WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED? DO YOU SEE CLIENTS ONLINE?

I am located in Coogee, in the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney, NSW. I also conduct therapy sessions online if that is more convenient for you or if you’re not close enough to meet in person.

WHAT QUALIFICATIONS DO YOU HAVE?

I have a Masters of Gestalt Psychotherapy. I am also a Level 4 Clinical Member of Australian Counselling Association.
