Depth Enquiry
Depth Enquiry™ is a therapeutic method that can be very effective and provide genuine, lasting results. Similar to the better known EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing), Depth Enquiry is based on empirically tested findings that the effects of trauma are stored in the body and subconscious so the healing of the effects of trauma need to be processed in a way that accesses these parts.
The Depth Enquiry method can be used to facilitate the processing of trauma, shame, anxiety and many negatively held belief patterns. Freeing you right from the core so it never has the same hold over you again.
Who is Depth Enquiry suitable for and what does it help with?
Depth Enquiry is predominantly beneficial for clients who have experienced trauma and who are experiencing a range of unhelpful trauma-related symptoms. It is also useful for clients experiencing anxiety, shame and many negative core beliefs that are holding them back.
How is Depth Enquiry different from EMDR?
Although there are many similarities in the way that Depth Enquiry and EMDR allow the brain to process and release trauma, the actual process is quite different. Clients who have experienced Depth Enquiry report that it is less clinical than EMDR and that it is a relaxing, non-confrontational process. Some say it has more of a holistic and embodied feel, as there is no need for eye movement and eyes can be closed to promote deep relaxation and free association. While some report the process is more flexible and relational.
What can I expect during a Depth Enquiry session?
To begin, we identify an experience or core belief that you would like to work on and I encourage you to choose an image that represents this belief. I'll then invite you to put on some headphones which with play bilateral beeps (beeping sounds that stimulate the left then right side of the brain in turn) and support you in entering a conscious, meditative state. From here, I will guide you through a process of noticing and allowing your thoughts, emotions, memories and physical sensations while the bilateral stimulation ultimately begins to file memories and sensations away in the “dealt with/normal memory cabinet” of your mind.
This is a relaxing process where your subconcious leads the way; it isn't forced or prescriptive and you can’t get it wrong. Instead, you are encouraged to trust the process, notice and allow the free-flowing of your thoughts and feelings and I will the rest.
What benefits can I expect?
The aim of Depth Enquiry is to help your brain reprocess disturbing experiences and/or limiting beliefs. This doesn't mean that you'll forget but they won’t have the power they used to. It will become a benign memory that doesn’t trigger you in the present. Your brain will continue to process these experiences throughout a series of sessions. You may notice a heightened awareness of your triggers or symptoms or may even experience strange dreams between treatments. This will resolve over time as you begin to respond differently to memories, limiting beliefs and traumatic past experiences.
How many sessions of Depth Enquiry will I need?
Usually clients require somewhere between 4 and 12 sessions of Depth Enquiry in order to achieve the desired results. It's important to note that some clients do not need a full course of Depth Enquiry and get to a point where they are no longer bothered by the issue. This is completely fine and is different from person to person.
