Couple's Counselling

I’m a big believer in Couples  Therapy because I know first-hand how helpful it can be. I only offer the tried and tested approaches that I have explored firsthand with my husband as we continue to work hard to stay connected and comitted.  With 18 years and three children together, we are still working on it but we are open and willing to show up for ourselves and our relationship, most of the time.

With me, couples therapy involves helping you both to move away from the arguing or the ‘tit-for-tat’ type patterns that may have lead you to seek counselling. I support you to see yourself, your partner and the relationship with compassion and clarity.

You might need to become aware of what you actually want; both as individuals and in your relationship.  

You may need to understand more about yourself by exploring (together) your situation, triggers and the patterns you are familiar with. 

You will be invited to understand the dynamics yo get stuck in. Learn ways of reconnecting to eachother in a meaningful way. You may both be defending your positions but not effectively communication or understanding your partner. Learn ways of  deeply listening to one another with care and compassion once again. Work towards the meaningful repair of damage done to trust, disapoitment or shame so that you can move forward with deeper understanding and compassion.

Sometimes the act of prioitising your relationship by booking couples therapy is significantly helpful in itself. You will have a scheduled space to be heard and supported through grief and loss, health issues, infidelity, financial difficulties, step-children/in-law difficulties, pregnancy issue, differing priorities and the like and to come to grips with what is happening while exploring  ways to cope and re-unite

You may need to find helpful ways to love and support your partner while in addiction, alcoholism, disordered eating or mood disorders without enabling them or abandoning yourself.
